(Photo by Stephanie Keith\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">WASHINGTON \u2014 The U.S. Department of Justice released more than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/epstein\" target=\"_blank\">3 million<\/a> pages of documents Friday related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The release, which in the 3 million pages includes more than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images, comes more than 40 days after the agency was legally required to release\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsfromthestates.com\/article\/trump-appears-several-files-latest-epstein-release\" target=\"_blank\">the full set of files<\/a> involving the disgraced financier, in compliance with federal law.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The department instead opted for a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsfromthestates.com\/article\/department-justice-releases-new-documents-photos-part-epstein-files\" target=\"_blank\">piecemeal rollout<\/a> of the files, prompting backlash.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said Friday\u2019s release marks the end of a \u201cvery comprehensive\u201d records review process to \u201censure transparency to the American people and compliance\u201d with the federal law \u2014 known as the Epstein Files Transparency Act \u2014 mandating the release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cAfter submitting the final report to Congress as required under the act and publishing the written justifications for redactions in the Federal Register, the department\u2019s obligations under the act will be completed,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In total, the DOJ has now released approximately 3.5 million pages in adherence with the federal law.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">President Donald Trump\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/119\/plaws\/publ38\/PLAW-119publ38.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">signed a bill into law<\/a> in November\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-bill\/4405\" target=\"_blank\">requiring the DOJ<\/a> to make publicly available \u201call unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials in DOJ\u2019s possession that relate to the investigation and prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein,\u201d including materials related to Epstein\u2019s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">GOP Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California co-sponsored the measure \u2014 which gave the department 30 days after the bill was enacted into law to release the files, or Dec. 19.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Trump, who has appeared in several of the files, had a well-documented friendship with Epstein, but has maintained he had a falling-out with the disgraced financier and was never involved in any alleged crimes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThere\u2019s a hunger or a thirst for information that I do not think will be satisfied by the review of these documents,\u201d Blanche said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThere\u2019s nothing I can do about that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Geoffrey Berman announces charges against Jeffrey Epstein on July 8, 2019 in New York City.
